What is GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery)
GNM or General Nursing Midwifery is a three-and-a-half-year degree in nursing.
Students wishing to study for the GNM degree can continue their studies after passing Science 12.

The GNM degree program is one such program that can be considered a stepping stone to a career in the field of nursing. Graduates of the GNM degree can start their careers working in public and private hospitals and clinics.
The average cost of a GNM degree program in India ranges between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 1.5 lakh per year.
This may vary depending on the criteria of the university/college.
There are several institutions in India that offer the GNM degree and admission is through entrance examinations and grades.
GNM Nursing Qualification Criteria
Must have passed Level 12 English and have achieved an overall mark of at least 40% in qualifying exams and English, independent of any board.
However, applicants with a scientific stream will be given a preference
GNM Nurse: Required Competencies
Upon successful completion of the GNM Diploma, graduates will be registered as RNRMs (Registered Nurse Midwives) and designated as Registered Nurses.
Nursing professions involve caring for patients and assisting doctors in providing care.
Attending nurses must demonstrate patience and empathy toward patients when dealing with different types of patients.
Additionally, nurses must have the skills, compassion, and excellent communication skills to work with doctors, patients, and other hospital administrators.
Nurses must be competent enough to communicate in medical terms (with doctors) and in lay terms (with patients).
Nurses must also have strong organizational and management skills, as nurses are also responsible for maintaining patient records.
GNM Nursing Diploma is the most fundamental course and has the shortest duration, while students must learn all the nuances involved in the profession.
