The Indian Institute of Information Technology Kalyani strives to produce top-notch IT professionals who can apply their skills in various domains. Its objective is to establish itself as a leading educational institution with exceptional research and educational facilities that prepare IT graduates for the workforce. Moreover, the institute fosters an innovative and entrepreneurial environment that results in the development of new products, solutions, and intellectual property in the state.

The IIIT Kalyani is situated in Kalyani, West Bengal and was established through a Not-for-profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) between the Government of India (Ministry of Education), the Government of West Bengal, and industry partners.

The project is funded by the aforementioned parties in a ratio of 50:35:15. Additionally, the Government of West Bengal has provided 50 acres of land for the campus. At present, Coal India Ltd. and Rolta Foundation are the industry partners of IIIT Kalyani.
The IIIT Kalyani Board of Governors is comprised of representatives from the Government of India (MHRD), the Government of West Bengal, industry partners, and experts from academia, industry, and civil society.

IIIT Kalyani has been attributed the status of Institute of National Importance (INI) by the cabinet in March 2017.

1. Establishment: IIIT Kalyani was established in the year 2014 under the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, 2017. It operates autonomously and is a partnership between the Government of West Bengal and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

2. Location: IIIT Kalyani is situated in Kalyani, a city in the state of West Bengal, India. Its location provides a conducive environment for academic pursuits and research.

3. Academic Programs: IIIT Kalyani offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various branches of computer science and information technology. These programs are designed to equip students with a strong foundation in computer science and prepare them for careers in technology or further research.

4. Research: Research is a significant focus at IIIT Kalyani. Faculty members and students actively participate in research projects covering a wide spectrum of areas, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, and more.
